the background existed as a WIP for some weeks before its completion. it was messy, but i got the concept down before it escaped my brainsphere. the imposement of toby on the backdrop was not initially sketched or revealed to me until i picked it back up after drawing um golly golly as a warmup. i just love drawing toby in this sort of faux-human pose, as if performing for the viewer some sort of human facade.
