um golly golly

this concept is partially inspired by a setpiece from thinkin' things collection 2, where you guide the cursor like a flashlight along a dark screen to reveal text that says "can you make this?" you can see that particular setpiece on youtube here as part of a longer no-commentary playthrough.
that particular scene was my favorite as a puppy, when i first played it in... i dunno, first grade? in the computer lab at my elementary school. i remember holding down the cursor and moving my hand in jerky, wild ways to see how i could break it - as though revealing the text was the "end goal" and i, in my infinite wisdom, decided "making the light ever-present by moving as fast as i could" was the correct "solution".
it's so funny how little things like this stick in your psyche for a long time. i still really like it, and the accompanying music makes it feel like you're really sleuthing.
