about the webmaster/s

i am rowan, toby, forest, swifty, doggy, etc, and i am a (tme) nonbinary lesbian (it/they) from remote northern california. i've been drawing since i was a puppy. i have chronic illness and may post about it occasionally.

the two mascots you'll see on this webpage are both me. toby is a black fox with a more serious affect, while forest is a stoat or zigzagoon who is more excitable and sociable. it's nice to meet you!

q: what's with the multiple names?

a: it wad plurality

q: why do you say you're a dog?

a: sometimes people are dogs. (source)

q: what is a dogthing?

a: they're simple dog-shaped creatures that often lack some facial features. i didn't really create them, though.

q: how did you make [xyz]?

some answers:

• i made this site with 11ty and nunjucks as my method of static site generation (and i used to use zonelets when i first started the site). you might like this tutorial.
• the rss feed is from an addon for above
• the website uses a lot of flexbox elements, which are like a more modular table that can be resized for other screen sizes etc. theyre pretty fun! i wrote a bit about it here too.
• i edit the site code in sublime text editor (it's free and it rocks!) and use that to automatically push it from github to neocities with this github action
• i draw using krita, clip studio paint, rebelle 5, ms paint, chickenpaint oekaki software, blender 3d, sculptris, aseprite (has a freeware alternative, and various traditional mediums such as oil pastels, water color, and colored pencil - i am rather eclectic!
• the quiz script is from caveofdragonflies and the styleswitcher is from a website formerly known as dynamicdrive that is now being domain-squatted. i wrote about how to use it here.
