a green and reddish drawing with two foxes, one red and one black, superimposed on a highly edited forest photograph. they are staring back over their shoulders at each other, with one fox mirrored and flipped to the other corner of the image. there is a light motion blur on the background, cutting a diagonal light path from top right to bottom left.

scraps of glass // created 2024-05-19

i have lately become more obsessed with this border between glass and texture. i have always been enamored with fogged glass, both artificially fogged and organically.

there is a window in my bathroom that has fogged glass that becomes clearer when you draw things on it, but still blurs the barrier. i used to draw on school bus windows in the winter, constantly re-drawing the same thing so it might show up for someone else later.

i just like glass, and the way it can obscure something tantalizingly or clarify something else.

more on this piece: i was working on this for a bit, trying very hard to nail that middle ground between texture and clarity. i also tried my best to bring out the reds in this piece; oftentimes i find red, as a warmer color, lends itself more to light than shadow. i would liken the shadowed-red to black cat fur that has rusted from sunning itself so much. it's a warm, cozy type of feeling juxtaposed with this fresh, vibrant, verdant green.
